Is this where I yell AOL?
Because I'm all "me too!" right now. Since finding Foxmarks a handful of weeks ago, my life between 3 platforms on 2 computers has been transformed. I'm very happy to see Shawn covering this topic!
use your own server
I use Foxmarks on all my machines. (Having all my bookmarks available five minutes after the first login of a new install is way cool.)
But I have issues with storing my bookmarks on another entity's computer--especially since I keep some confidential information in my bookmarks. (No passwords, but the occasional username and maybe a password hint--plus just having my financial accounts bookmarked is enough to point someone in the right direction for phishing.) So I setup my own server and pointed Foxmarks to it. It's just a VM with webdav enabled and a password protected page where my bookmarks.json file lives.
There is one caveat: to be on the safe side, you'll probably want SSL/TLS enabled. This generally means generating a self-signed certificate. No big deal, but you need to navigate to the page and accept the certificate for the site before Foxmarks will be able to use it.

Yes, a simple webserver with mod_dav and mod_dav_fs. I did this last night and it was a piece of cake to setup once I remembered to enable mod_dav_fs.

Bad display via your link but OK at YouTube
The Foxmarks video looks terrible when I view it via your embedded feed but perfectly fine if I go to Youtube and view it there. The other videos at linuxjournal.com are fine, but then they use different feeds. I use ubuntu 8.10 e/w Nvidia version 177 driver on a GeForce 8200 card.
Please go back to the previous streaming meathod.

I suspect this might be a youtube issue. We have not changed anything about the way we embed youtube videos.
We will definitely consider all our options for video in the future.

Umm..what's the advantage of using Foxmarks over Del.icio.us, since the latter has been around for a while and there's a Firefox plugin to synchronize the bookmarks there. Additionally, you can share the bookmarks and also find new interesting pages through Del.icio.us..
Just quicker
I like foxmarks because once it's set up, you never need to visit a website, etc. Bookmark a site on one computer, it's immediately available on the next computer you use. The my.foxmarks.com feature is one I rarely use.

I'm not big on recursion outside of coding. I hate recursive acronyms and I can't stand the idea of bookmarking a website in order to manage my bookmarks. One less website I have to visit. Plus, if I want to find a website which is about a topic I'm interested in, I'll do a search and sift through the sites I find for the one that satisfies my need. I don't need another site's opinion on what I should be looking at.

Of all the extensions I install to Firefox this is the best I've ever used. I could deal with looking at ads and annoying Flash embeds but don't ever take away my Foxmarks.
