KDE alternative?

... just found the solution myself.
It is part of the background settings in KDE4.

HOW-TO:
right click on the desktop background.
there is a context menu entry like 'Settings ..' (I run German localization - just a fuzzy translation ;-))
Within this setting dialog popping up you can choose a type like slide show.

Some more cool types are available as well like marble and the weather ...

Ubuntu 9.10 not working

I installed this on both my 9.10 laptop and workstation. I get a "The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:DrapesApplet". So it won't start for me.

Not the applet

Just run the application, do not use the gnome applet. The applet hasn't worked for years, but the ordinary application does work just fine.

Huh, I'm running it on 9.10 on 2 desktops and my laptop... I demoed on 9.04 in a VM, but on my actual systems I'm using 9.10.

The workstation was an upgrade from 9.04 and the laptop was a fresh install of 9.10. I'll try it on a couple more systems today.

Failed to start 100% of time

I've now tried in on 4 systems, 1 was a laptop, another a 32bit workstation, yet another was a 64-bit workstation and the last a Virtualbox (32bit) installs of Ubuntu 9.10. All failed to start with the same problem as stated above.

This is such a wanted and utilized feature. It is amazing to me that Gnome hasn't incorporated it into the desktop. Even Windows finally put it in Win 7.

But we wouldn't want to confuse all those Gnome users would we?
