Lets hope people do not start pronouncing Ubuntu that way...
just start typing a path from /
/home
/tmp
/var/log/httpd
just type it, no need for Ctrl+L
Typical Microsoftishness of Gnome
Microsoft crapware always tries to second-guess the user.
Gnome, being so close with them, is following its master rather well in adopting the "screw the user working style - we know better" style.
Damn Gnome!
Ctrl-L
Ctrl-L works in Google Chrome too, very useful as there's no "clear" button
Consider voting that Gnome put back access to the Locationbar!
I find it very annoying that Gnome removed the button in the first place!!
Someone mocked up a very workable alternate UI concept to gain access to the path based Nautilus Locationbar. Please see it here:

Please consider voting for such a solution here:

That's not a new Lucid
That's not a new Lucid feature. Using Ctrl-L has worked to put the location in typing mode for a very long time (at least as far back to Ubuntu 8.04). It also works to focus your URL in Firefox.
Guys, it's really difficult
Guys, it's really difficult take someone who calls themself "Metalx1000" seriously. Could not watch.
Agreed
Agreed - I thought the internet had grown up a little by now, but maybe not.
Just "/" also works in Karmic
I have another way to do this in Karmic. Make sure you have nautilus window focused. Then hit the "/" on your keyboard. You'll get the same result as "Ctrl+L" trick.
I guess it works in Lucid too.
what he said, just start
what he said, just start typing your path from /
Zooming
What do you use to do that zoom in your video?
If you have Compiz running,
If you have Compiz running, by default you should be able to hold down the 'Win' (Also known as the SUPER key) and then scroll in and out with your mouse.

Tired of Ctrl + L?
If you prefer to always type your location you can make nautilus use only the text input location box.
Start gconf-editor.
Browse to /apps/nautilus/preferences.
Check the box next to "always_use_location_entry" and you're done.
thanks for this! I liked
thanks for this! I liked having both but prefer this over the buttons.
