Works with Compiz here, YMMV

I have never had a problem using ALT+Click+Drag with Compiz. Your computer must be made by communists.

I have been grappling with this problem on my new 7in eeepc. excellent tip, thanks.

Using the Alt key for window management is bad.

Having an Alt key to send commands and another one to send characters is confusing in general. The "gr." part on the "Alt gr." key is almost unnoticeable, and it will spare explanations, time and headaches about why they are different if both Alt keys only sent characters.

Besides, as all the keyboards sold nowadays have the "logo" key (since some years ago, actually, and even the smaller netbook keyboards have it), I don't see why it's unsafe to use this one as the default key for the window managing stuff (like the stuff shown on the video). This will be a saner default than the current state of things. Why? see the episode 110 of the Meet The Gimp podcast: This is 2009 and Gimp has a feature that cannot be used because the windows manager captures first the Alt key. Preposterous.

Yes, yes, I know some people hate that key and have it removed from their keyboards and filled the hole with concrete, and some other people have old mechanical keyboards that do not have that key, and yadda, yadda, yadda… face it: you already know what config files to change to make it work to your preferences (probably from the top of your head —or else you pretty much know where to look—).

The .ogv file plays directly in Firefox 3.5, which is nice - no need for Flash.

Another option that works with or without compiz is ALT+F7, move your mouse, and then click to release.
