$100 Laptops Getting Pricier
on October 3, 2007
The future of the term “$100 laptop” is looking dim, as a second project has announced price increases for the low-cost Linux systems. Asus announced yesterday that it's Eee PC, which goes on sale later this month, would start at $260, up from the expected $199 selling price.
A few weeks ago, the One Laptop Per Child Project - often referred to as the “$100 Laptop” - announced that it would begin selling the systems in November for $200 each. The OLPC laptop will only be available under the “Get One, Give One” program, where buyers will pay for two systems: they receive one, and the second will be sent to a child in a developing country.
