Mitel Networks 6000 Small Business Applications Platform is a next-generation networking solution that dramatically increases security, reliability, and efficiency for the progressive small business professional.
A companion to Mitel Networks IP communications platforms, the 6000 is a Linux-based, turnkey network server solution and managed applications platform for a range of traditional IT and voice-centric applications targeted to small businesses. As a network server solution for small offices, the 6000 provides a secure firewall and Internet gateway, e-mail, file and print sharing, web hosting and more. The server is supplemented and managed by ServiceLink - a suite of network-delivered services that provides customers with critical security and system-management features such as virus protection, IPSEC virtual private networking and 24 x 7 monitoring. ServiceLink offers another exceptional benefit - the ability to automatically deliver and integrate new applications and software updates over the Internet to a customer's server with the click of a button, eliminating truck rolls. The entire system is pre-integrated with robust, Intel-based server hardware for a rapid out-of-the-box installation.
Mitel Networks 6000 Small Business Applications Platform is designed to fulfill two primary roles in the typical small business. First, as a companion to Mitel Networks IP communications solutions, it provides the base platform for a range of upcoming small-business applications such as integrated messaging, contact center solutions, etc. Second, the 6000 offers all of the key data-networking features and benefits typically associated with a small business server, enhanced by a suite of security and system-management services delivered from a Mitel Networks Applications Management Center.
The complete solution is tightly integrated, highly reliable and extremely easy to install and administer. In particular, ServiceLink reduces the time required to deploy the server, adds new functionality, and improves remote management by increasing the server's reliability and security. For end users, this translates into lower costs and less downtime. For Channel Partners, this improves customer retention, and makes it possible to manage large numbers of servers efficiently without frequent truck rolls. ServiceLink also provides a fast, efficient means of delivering software updates and new voice and data applications - which will be packaged as downloadable "software blades" - for small business customers.
The 6000 requires little or no IT expertise to install and manage, and builds on the proven track record of the Mitel Networks SME Server. The SME Server has won numerous industry awards and is currently deployed on more than 65,000 servers worldwide.

Re: Product of the Day: Mitel Networks 6000 Small Business Appli
Why would I bother with this? Mitel is out of touch with customers... the product is expensive and I still have to pay monthly bills to them.
Get real... they just modified RedHat 7.1 and charge for IPSEC VPN (Freeswan).
They are shafting the developers too. They won't release their VPN code even though it's Freeswan. Something fishy going on there....
I sell Cobalt Qubes and they include IPSEC and PPTP VPN for FREE! No ongoing "fees".
Re: Product of the Day: Mitel Networks 6000 Small Business Appli
What's up with this guy? He says the Mitel product is expensive. Reality: the server software is _free_ and 100 per cent open source. Just visit e-smith.org and download the ISO.
He says you have pay monthly fees to Mitel. Reality: you only pay if you want Mitel's remote services, like virus protection, monitoring, DNS services, email backup, plus ongoing support. Don't want/need the services? Don't pay. Simple.
He says Mitel just modified RedHat 7.1. Well, sure, what did you expect? Most people happen to think that's a benefit -- rpms written for RedHat will run on Mitel's server.
He says that Mitel charges for IPSEC VPNs (Freeswan) and won't release the code. Reality: Freeswan is included in the open source product. What Mitel charges for is a service that automatically configures IPSEC VPNs between servers. If you want to configure your own VPNs, go right ahead - and don't pay a cent. If, on the other hand, you want to be able to set up and take down VPNs in seconds, remotely, try Mitel's service. The choice is yours.
He implies that Mitel's server doesn't include PPTP VPNs for free. Reality: it does. Period.
The Cobalt Qube (which, by the way, also runs a tweaked RedHat) is a decent little appliance. But Mitel's server is free, open source and can be installed on ANY standard Intel hardware. Does anyone know the URL where I can download the ISO image for the Qube so I don't have to use their proprietary hardware?
Re: Product of the Day: Mitel Networks 6000 Small Business Appli
You can purchase servers directly from Mitel's partners and resellers. These servers come with a pre-installed and pre-configured copy of the SME Server. We got ours from http://www.edgesite.com for example.
Re: Product of the Day: Mitel Networks 6000 Small Business Appli
This Mitel product listed was originally the e-smith Server and Gateway
. Now the authorized e-smith resellers are selling the MItel SME v5 which is the same product as the one listed in this article. Please visit the e-smith sites for info and to show support. This product is absolutely fabulous, also there is a full version ISO you can download, but support is up to the user.
Mitel, licence GPL :-(
Perdon, my English is very bad.
There is ISO this server, who say they top this for download are lying.
