Gentoo Countdown Reaches Zero
If you're the do-it-yourself sort, one who likes to pick exactly what they want and cut the fluff, then today is the day to celebrate, as Gentoo — Linux the way you see fit — has reached its first milestone for 2008.
The 2008.0 release — with the very green sounding code name It's got what plants crave — brings a number of important changes, including hardware support improvements, a change to Xfce (previously GNOME) on the LiveCD, restructured profiles, and updates to the installer. Also of note are numerous package updates, including those to Portage and the 2.6.24 kernel, as well as the decision to forgo LiveDVDs in order to provide a more timely release.
Those ready to jump in to the world of Gentoo can find their way to the latest release on Gentoo's release page.
