The Linux4.TV web site was created by Century Software and National Semiconductor as a focal point for all open-source software created for the National Geode SC1200 and the Geode SP1SC10 development platform for advanced set-top boxes.
The goal of this web site is to provide a complete suite of open-source drivers, applications, plugins and toolkits, using an open API, based on Video 4 Linux Two, that forms the foundation of a feature-rich, interactive set-top box system. The site will include open-source software projects and applications for a variety of electronic devices including broadcast and digital TV, web browsing, gaming and video on demand.
"Our goal is to have this site be the go-to place for all of the open-source resources needed to develop next-generation set-top boxes'', said David Pederson, director of National's set-top box business unit. "We want this to be a global meeting place for developers to converse, share code and collaborate.''
Launched in August 2001, the site has garnered strong interest from the Open Source community. Ultimately, Linux4.TV will be a site for partner companies to share their open-source code and tools to further strengthen embedded Linux as a robust, first-choice operating system.
