According to the User's Guide and Inso, there are two supported Version 3.x.x releases of the DynaText browsers for several Unix and non-Unix operating systems.
Release 3.0.x of the DynaText browser supports Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows NT and these Unix platforms: HP-UX 10.x, IBM AIX 3.2.5, SGI IRIX 5.3, SunOS 4.1.x (no Asian language support), Sun Solaris i86 2.5 (no Asian language support), Sun Solaris for SPARC 2.4 and UnixWare 2.x
Release 3.1 of the DynaText browser supports these Unix platforms: HP-UX 10.x, SGI IRIX 5.3 and Sun Solaris for SPARC 2.4.
Digital UNIX was targeted for a release around the end of May. Platforms such as IBM AIX 4.1, SunOS 4.1.x, Sun Solaris i86 2.5 and UnixWare 2.x were expected to roll out between May and the end of July.
Inso indicated some publishers were still making DynaText 2.3 available with their products. This out-of-date release supports these Unix platforms: Sun Solaris 4.1.x & 5.x, HP-UX 9.0, SGI IRIX 5.2.x, IBM AIX 3.2.5, UnixWare 1.1, DEC OSF 1 and Solaris x86 2.1.
Unfortunately, Linux is not in the list, and the future does not look bright for a Linux browser from Inso. At the time of this review, Inso informed me there were no current plans for making a Linux browser available. A footnote in the Installation and User's Guide may interest you if you are feeling really adventurous and want to install this hypertext book under Linux. The footnote states:
It may be possible to run DynaText under Linux by running one of the supplied browsers under the IBCS emulation package that comes with Linux. We have received reports that some people have succeeded in doing that using a UnixWare library obtained from another source and the UnixWare 1.1 browser (UW in the browser collection).
One should be aware that parts of the UnixWare library are copyrighted and licensed code.
