One of the most significant things about open-source development is the way it's developed: by communities of people who may be located anywhere in the world, connected by the Internet. The most popular article this week was a feature on two such Linux communities [1], one in France and one in England.
There also was interesting news on the continuing debate over patents: Martin Winckler lost his job at France-Inter, [2] and one US presidential candidate is calling for an open-source model for some medical patents. [3]
We also published a link to Mitch Kapor's excellent presentation about Free Software at OSCON, [4] and an article about the successful deployment in France of Koha, [5] a free software library management system. If you read German, you may be interested in the newly released Free Software Migration Guide, [6] published by the German Interior Ministry.
