At GM, Cars Drive You

General Motors — the highest-selling automaker in the world — is celebrating it's centennial this year, and will apparently be doing it with bold ambitions for the future: cars that drive themselves.

No, it's not a plot from a 1950's sci-fi flick, it's the expected subject of the keynote speech being given by GM Chief Rick Wagoner today at the Consumer Electronics Show. According to reports, Wagoner is expected to unveil a plan to have driver-less cars available in showrooms within the next ten years — provided there's enough interest.

GM's R&D department is saying the technology is already available — things like radar cruise control and satellite maps — but getting the cars on the road will depend on how the public, and the government, react to them.
