Real Time Linux Is Popping Up Everywhere

Real time Linux — systems that override system-wide average performace to guarantee performance for certain critical applications — seems to be popping up everywhere this week, with two major Linux vendors releasing real time systems within days of each other.

First out of the chute this week was Novell, which released SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 10 on November 28th, and had a deal with Concurrent to distribute it seemingly within hours. Following close on their heels was Red Hat, which released Red Hat Enterprise MRG on December 4th.

And, of course, the releases couldn't come without some controversy, which was generously provided by Red Hat's allegations that Novell stole it's code.
