In what format is the digital edition?
Current subscribers will receive a PDF edition automatically; however, they have the option to upgrade to our enhanced online digital edition from Texterity at no extra cost. (If you choose the Texterity option, you still can download a PDF version.) Current subscribers will be offered this upgrade immediately.

Beginning with the September 2011 issue, EPUB and Kindle .mobi formats are also available to subscribers as well as access to read their magazine subscritions in custom Linux Journal Android, iPhone and iPad apps. All of these formats are included in the price of a digital subscription -- no upgrades are necessary to receive access to all.

Why would I want to upgrade to the enhanced online digital edition from Texterity?
First, this upgrade is free of charge. Texterity’s edition is more feature-rich and allows you to enjoy the same, familiar experience as thumbing through a print magazine, dwelling over stories and following the flow of the magazine's layout with these added benefits:

  • Easy navigation: the live table of contents, embedded page links, and phrase search and highlighting make it quick and easy to go to the articles you want to read most.
  • Save, clip, share: clip pages and save them, or even forward them to friends and colleagues to share ideas and information.
  • Interactivity: we'll be incorporating rich media in future issues, so you can look forward to reading a product review and watching our editors introduce the product hands-on in a video.
  • Like the PDF edition, Texterity’s edition also is available for off-line reading. With it, you can download the entire magazine (also in PDF format) or choose to download just a page or two.
