You may have noticed something different about LinuxJournal.com today.

I am very pleased to share our newly redesigned site with you, and I'd like to tell you a little bit about some of the new features. I hope you'll take the time to register, if you have not already, so that you may take advantage of all of the new features we have added and will continue to add.

When you are logged into the new LinuxJournal.com you'll be able to communicate with other readers and with the Linux Journal editors and staff. Visit the participate page to search for other readers and editors, so you can make friends and share your experiences in the world of Linux and open source. Think of us as your virtual LUG!

Once you have established a profile, this will also be your "recipe book" to keep track of all your favorite articles and posts from around the site. You'll notice a new link at the bottom of each post that says "Mark as Favorite." Use this to store articles for easy reference.

I'll continue to add new features in the near future, and I look forward to sharing them as our online community grows.

Hadn't been around for sometime and, coming back, I got pleasantly surprised with the redesigned look of the site.

It will take a (little) while to learn where things are - I used to navigate the site with my eyes closed - but I like it: seems more... mmm... is "organized" the word I'm looking for?

Anyway, good job!

Is there a change in availability to latest magazine?

To me it looks like the latest issue isn't available anymore to a subscriber like it used to be. No mention of a change in the policy in this article either.

Would you, please, give some information, what is your policy now? Do you publish two months old issues to subscribers to read from the Web service or is there possibly a fundamental change, that from now on, you want to get payment from each issue, ie. current print, current digital, an archived etc?

I like the new look, LJ is definitely one of my favorite magazines (in print) and sites (on web) to visit. I have the RSS feed on my home page so I know when something new is available.

Thanks for keeping me connected with a little of the heartbeat of the Linux and open source community. :)

Konqueror?

Had to use FF (Iceweasel). Debian/Konqueror doesn't render the page properly, like so many other websites it no longer renders. As much as I've liked using Konqueror the past 7 years or so, is it time to dump KDE? Even 4.x has trouble rendering sites. Is it just me and my special kind of luck? Or do other people have trouble with Konqueror?

Oh, the new coif.... It looks good. Makes good use of white space and other visual cues. Doesn't cram everything together as many sites do. IMIO though, it could use a little dressing up; there's a little too much 'glaring' white.

On balance, is good!

Konqueror and JQuery don't

Konqueror and JQuery don't play well together, so that is probably the problem. You really need JQuery for a good Drupal site (in my opinion), so I side with Drupal in the Drupal vs. Konqueror arena. I haven't used Konqueror in over a year, and we get almost no traffic from Konqueror users, and haven't for a while. Firefox in Debian should work though.

I would obviously prefer that Konqueror and JQuery kiss and make up from an ideological standpoint though. Maybe there will be progress soon.

I can sympathize with you. I use jQuery and always test my sites on Konqueror as well as MS-Windows IE versions and Firefox, Opera, etc. Konqueror does have some issues but I have been able to work around most of them. Konqueror is MUCH much more standard compliant the any IE version including IE8. Even tough jQuery has put a lot of effort into working around Microsoft's broken browser there are still plenty of problems.

It is sad that Konqueror can't join the really good browsers instead of being almost alone with IE.

Dunno whatchall done did, if anything, but LJ now seems to display properly in Konqueror (has been for a week or three).

Major step backwards

I'm all for changes, but the new site seems to be a step backwards. Not only is navigation harder (IMHO), but access to content is more kludgy, what with login prompts and social networking badges clogging up the main page. The new site is also very cookie-cutter compared to its last revision. Sorry, LJ, but hopefully it will grow on me...

Mobile compatibility

I just noticed something - the old site seemed to recognize when I was using my BlackBerry to browse the site and formatted it accordingly. Now, not so much...it loads the "fat" site, which works but it's sluggish.

Any chance of a mobile site being (re)created? Or does it exist and I just have to change the URL accordingly?
