the difference?
A nice followup may be a brief illustration of the major differences between the two in terms of functionality. I have always been aware of CVS, then subversion, and more recently git...yet I haven't really been able to determine why someone would choose one over the other. Given the popularity of cvs and svn, I can't help but believe they work just fine, which makes me wonder why git came about (again, my assumption is that it's new).
You're forgetting the most important
I fondly remember SCCS. I miss it so much, in fact, that I still prefix my "$Id$" strings with "@(#)".
Seriously.

Mercurial

CVS :-)
Also, as linux users we should be aware a popular choice is not always the best for a person's needs.
Weird question
If you had to choose one or the other, which would it be?
O Yellow soda pop
O Green soda pop

I'm a human, and like my sane-by-default revision numbers, thanks.
Inconclusive
Considering they're only off by two votes, and only 37 people voted, I feel like the results are pretty inconclusive. This would actually make a great point/counterpoint article.
