openSUSE 11.0 Gets Short Stay of Execution

openSUSE 11.0 was originally slated for "end of life" on June 15. But due to the requests from users, the SUSE Security and Maintenance Team has decided to extend the maintenance period until 11.3 is released to the public - avoiding the 26 day gap in security coverage.

openSUSE 11.3 is scheduled for wide release on July 15 after a week of internal testing. At that time, the Security and Maintenance Team will stop handling new requests for 11.0. The last update will come on July 21, assuring that users will experience a smoother transition to 11.3.

out already, that's 2 versions now. I'm not sure it matters if they extend the EOL. I'm on an opensuse mail list and haven't seen much clamoring for 11.0 support to stick around.

that LJ is a Unbuntu magazine and use Linux Journal in the generalist terms.

I have a hard time accepting that the Linux Journal is a "Ubuntu" magazine. As someone that uses Fedora and Red Hat almost exclusively.

I do have to say I notice more Ubuntu articles than other distros. Ironically there is a video on the side bar featuring something in Ubuntu. I personally hate Ubuntu. But to its credit it has gotten more people interested in Linux. Heck I started out on it myself thanks to its install in Windows feature. Now the only thing on my computer is openSUSE.

because I got tired of reading articles that were all apt-get and other Ubuntu based descriptions. Ubuntu is plastered everywhere on Linux Journal's web site and articles in their magazine. I'm amazed this little stub of an article about opensuse even got posted.
