Packt is pleased to announce a new book on Moodle that is a complete administrator's guide to configuring, securing and customizing Moodle. Through Moodle Administration, Alex Büchner, the co-founder and technical lead of the UK's largest Moodle partner Synergy Learning, will teach users how to install, set up, plan, optimize and maintain a Moodle system.

Moodle has evolved from an academic project to the world's most popular virtual learning environment. It is designed to help educators create online courses with opportunities for rich interaction. Its open source license and modular design means that people can develop additional functionality.

This book will make users understand the Moodle architecture and find their way around its interfaces. It will teach educators to configure courses, course categories, enrollment, and authentication mechanisms. Users will also learn to back up and restore Moodle at course, site, and system level.

Using third party tools like Google Analytics, users will be able to interpret and analyze their activity, and track statistics using Moodle's in-built monitoring facility. Users will also learn to configure Moodle for accessibility, localization, and customizing modules and grade/gradebook settings.

Technicians, systems administrators, as well as academic staff dealing with a small-scale local Moodle system or a large-scale multi-site Virtual Learning Environment will find this book useful.

The book is out now and is available from Packt. For more information, please visit http://www.packtpub.com/moodle-administration-guide/book

If last month's Infrastrucuture issue was too "big" for you then try on this month's Embedded issue. Find out how to use Player for programming mobile robots, build a humidity controller for your root cellar, find out how to reduce the boot time of your embedded system, and if you're new to embedded systems find out the basics that go into one. You can also read about the Beagle Board, the Mesh Potato and a spate of other interestingly named items. And along with our regular columns don't miss our new monthly column: Economy Size Geek.
