Ubuntu centric
I think you will find that probably 60 to 75% of all users use Debian or a derivative of it. "nuff said.

Don't use Ubuntu myself. I use Debian Lenny and Mint 9.0. I read statistics somewhere, don't remember where. The one thing I can think of that would be a problem is writing an article and having to list the commands for every type of distro would really be a chore. You kno if an article says apt-get install name of program you should be able to replace apt-get with whatever you use. I have used Suse and Fedora but found that Debians' package management too be far superior to any others. That is why I made the switch. Even when I was using Fedora I knew what to do to get what the article was talking about working. Look at Distrowatch. All of their top distros are Debian based.

I see at least 4 in the top 10 that are RPM based. Yup, that's all that are Debian based right there.
The point is, it says apt-get install. It doesn't say "fire up your distros package manager".
Why would you have to list them all? You can write an article with universal instructions for all distros. You don't have to plug Ubuntu in every possible article. That's why it's called Linux Journal. To be gender neutral, not to be Ubuntu Journal.

We are not on anyone's payroll, I can assure you. Much of our audience does indeed use Ubuntu so you may see more Ubuntu-centric content than any other particular distro, but we are very conscience of making sure to bring in many other distros in to our editorial also.
In an effort to bring more attention to so many of the other great distros we feature a Distro Spotlight on the site too:

And as a P.S. we're not an Ubuntu-centric shop internally either. We do have Ubuntu and Kubuntu running on a couple of desktops, but we also have CentOS, Debian, and SuSE all running within an arm's length of me. There are many other distros running amongst the LJ team too. We're anything but Ubuntu-centric here at LJ, but I do appreciate your feelings and will take your opinion to our editorial team.

You can say that all you want
but I let my subscription go because every article started with "do apt-get install".
And then the rest of the article was nothing but Ubuntu. I even survived the Maddog Hall and Nick Petreley era. I'd like to see a real poll of "Much of your audience" that uses Ubuntu. I suspect it's less than you want to believe. There's a magazine out there already for Ubuntu users called Ubuntu User. Let them take care of the Ubuntu marketing.

OpenSUSE 11.3 was just released. Not one mention of that. I remember reading a nice review of OS 11.0 when it first game out. Is that part of your "effort to bring more attention to so many of the other great distros"? That last thing mentioned about OpenSUSE? That 11.0 had a stay of execution. That's a token mention.

I'm considering getting a subscription because Ubuntu and Debian are covered well. I didn't come to this distribution lightly and from my observations, Ubuntu (and Debian) and leading a wave.
Please change the color of
Please change the color of the links on this site, it's almost imposible to know there are links sometimes.
Maybe a text-decoration underline or a subtle background color.
Also, please change the fonts to sans-serif or something, this one hurts my eyes.

I see now that would probably mean as an add-on to the print subscription. I guess I missed the option near the top: "For digital subscriptions click here." - not very obvious in that fainter grey font that seems to be the fad now on so many web sites (a technique I have used on my internal web pages to obscure/de-emphasize text that I did not want viewers to focus on - what's with this new UN-usability trend???)
What about the CD with archives of past issues? That is what really makes a subscription worthwhile to serve as an all-in-one reference source. Has that been dropped?

I just tested it again and this is what the page should return upon completion:

It worked for me just now, but doesn't mean that there wasn't a glitch overnight (perhaps SurveyGizmo was down for a few... I'm not 100% sure). Anyhow, my apologies to you for any effort that was lost on this. It does indeed work now, though I can assure you.

Yello highlight for question
After I click submit, it loads the same page with all questions highlighted in yellow.
I clicked the back button on browser and then it said thank you..... and "please confirm" button was displayed.
Seems like the incomplete survey submit has a problem.

Digital Edition Not Very Appealing Option
I was considering getting a digital subscription until I found out it actually costs MORE than print, and with print layout instead of PC monitor-oriented layout - what's with that?
