Fedora 13 set for release in May

The Fedora Project is reporting version 13 (code name "Goddard") of the Fedora Linux distribution is scheduled for release on May 18th of this year. Featuring Gnome 2.30, KDE 4.4, and RPM 4.8, Release 13 will also use NFS v4 by default, and include support for mounting NFS servers over IPv6. A feature list is available at fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/13/FeatureList, and Beta media is available for download at fedoraproject.org/get-prerelease. As always, Fedora is a great way to preview technologies that may make it into a future release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. I have personally installed and used Fedora on my laptop and have found it suitable for work related activities. However, I've done this knowing I am capable of supporting this setup myself, since there are many sources of information and support online from the Fedora Community. If I were installing a production system at work, I would most probably use a distribution that my customer could get commercial support for, either from a vendor like Red Hat, or some other consulting firm specializing in long term support.

I have personally installed and used Fedora on my laptop and have found it Power Balance wristbands suitable for work related activities.

Fedora 13 on Dell XPS M1330 Laptop

I have started using Fedora exclusively instead of dual booting for at least a year now since the release of Fedora 12. 12 has its bugs but not as many compared to 13. I upgraded to 13, both 64 bit, and have continual crashes in evolution and screensaver. The NVIDIA driver/Nouveau isn't bad but lacks GL to use the very cool features of Desktop attributes. Have problems trying to burn discs using Brasero, Scanning using Canon LIDE 600F no functional and using the built in SD/MMC - MS/Pro reader doesn't work. There still are issues in browsing windows network using default settings. As far as improvements there quite a bit OS responsiveness is better improved wireless N functionality speeds improvement in chat clients, built in Webcam audio.

Overall I continue to use Fedora, I like the interface and the drive to improve.

Goddard: praise to the innovator

Fedora 13 honor the name Goddard, a tenacious, visionary, smart and passionate american engineer who contribute so much to the science of rockets. in that context, the guys at Fedora are doing their part on being tenacious, have the vision to the future, squeeze their brains in the effort to be more smart and commit themselves with so much passion for Linux. I am sure a lot of people appreciate that even if they do not use Fedora. Fedora is not a distro for everybody, require knowledge in deal with command line tools and the willingness to download sources and do compilations maybe more than another distros. Fedora lovers know that every 6 months things will change and they are waiting for that. Fedora is not for the ones to expect stability and/or friendliness, is for the ones that want to be on the edge, and despite all of that, Fedora 13 have a lot of improvements in the handling of hardware, drivers, etc. I am testing the beta in an old laptop HP Pavilion zv6000 with an AMD Sempron 3000+ processor, ATI Radeon XPRESS 200M 5955 (PCIE) video card, Broadcom BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller, TOSHIBA MK4025GA 40 Gb Hard Drive and 512 Mb RAM: installation was easy and work like a charm; I even installed Compiz with all the plugins and so far I am enjoying all the nice display effects without any bug.

I'm new in Fedora, I'm using Fedora 12 - 64 Bit. I already download adobe Flash Player but I can't install it........ How can install it?

Fedora Enjoyment

Ubuntu has a cool Graphics User Interface compared to Fedora but I still don't know why myself love Fedora OS so much. From my experience, Fedora 9 has, oh my god, so many bugs and terrible things but Fedora 11 seems to have improved a lot. I am so excited to look forward new versions of Fedora too. Just don't know why I don't want the even number of the version. I just like to use Fedora9, Fedora 11, Fedora 13, ...(:D)

I don't want to make this mistake again.
