Product Excellence Awards

We are pleased to announce Linux Journal will be hosting the Product Excellence Awards at LinuxWorld Conference and Expo, August 14 - 17, 2006. Here we'll award the top new products in the Linux and open source industry.

General Criteria

  1. To participate in Linux Journal's Product Excellence Awards, your company MUST be exhibiting at LinuxWorld Conference & Expo this August in San Francisco, CA.
  2. Products must have been launched in the 2006 calendar year, on or before August 15, 2006.
  3. Judging will occur day 1 of the expo (August 15). All vendors must supply a representative at the vendor booth during the first day of the expo at all times. Unfortunately judges will NOT be able to make multiple trips to vendor booths or set appointment times.
  4. All nominations must be received on or before Monday, July 24, 2006.

 Best Database Solution
Entries should either provide database services, or leverage a database product for increased productivity or performance.
 Best Open Source Solution
Entries should be licensed under an OSI-approved license. Open source projects as well as companies distributing products under open source licenses are encouraged to apply.
 Best Utility/Grid Computing Solution
Entries should be current shipping solutions that have been proven to solve customer problems, vaporware need not apply
 Best Security Solution
This category covers firewall, intrusion detection, VPN, identity management, virus management, etc.
 Best Desktop Solution
Office suites, desktop publishing, business applications, distributions, etc.
 Best Messaging Solution
E-mail server applications, spam management, virus scanning, etc.
 Best Application Development Platform or Tool
This category covers application servers, scripting engines, GUI development environments, programming languages, etc.
 Best System Management Tools
System monitoring and management, provisioning, systems administration, backups, etc.
 Best Clustering Solution
This category covers applications for developing and managing Linux servers in a clustered environment. Must be a shipping product in production use. May be software and/or software/hardware products.
 Most Innovative Hardware Solution
Given to a hardware/systems vendor leveraging Linux to create valuable and innovative solutions. Generally, would not be given to vendors for traditional systems.
 Best Integration Solution
This category covers applications designed to facilitate integration or disparate systems. The products must be shipping products with real customers.
  Best Virtualization Solution
This category covers applications designed to virtualize operating systems, hardware, and storage. The product must offer a way to increase utilization of IT resources.
All nominations received will automatically be entered into the Best of Show category.
