IBM Lab Tests Show SWsoft's Virtuozzo Technology Can Run 5,000 Linux Instances With Less Then a Percentage Point of Overhead

SWsoft, Inc., the leader in hosting automation, enterprise server software and virtualization technology, today announced that Virtuozzo 2.5.1 has again raised the bar for Virtual Private Server (VPS) technology and supports 5000 plus instances of the Linux Operating System (OS) on a low-cost Intel x86 server. Results show that Virtuozzo 2.5.1 helps businesses maximize efficiencies by keeping overhead costs low and optimizing hardware investments and management resources. According to a series of tests conducted at the IBM Testing lab, Virtuozzo 2.5.1 allows each VPS to scale up to 16 CPUs and 64GB of RAM, giving Hosting Service Provider (HSPs) and enterprise customers' unmatched scalability.

Virtuozzo virtualization software lets businesses partition Intel servers into VPS where each instance has the functionality identical to a dedicated server, with its own set of init scripts, users, processes, file systems, etc. Today, SWsoft is a leading provider of virtualization technology, giving customers reliable, scalable solutions to reduce IT costs through the central management and support of hundreds of VPS. With Virtuozzo for Microsoft Windows software on the horizon, SWsoft will introduce the same cost effective, efficient virtualization concepts and solutions to enterprise customers using the Microsoft Windows platform, giving enterprise businesses more options and helping them to reduce IT support costs while improving the IT services they deliver.

Initial tests show that Virtuozzo for Microsoft Windows will have similar scalability and efficiency levels to Virtuozzo 2.5.1 for Linux. The newest version of Virtuozzo will also offer enhanced migration capabilities, improved VZMC, a full Graphical User Interface (GUI) management tool, advanced backup options and remote VPS management features. These new features will give enterprises the ability to consolidate servers in its data center while saving valuable time and money.

Serguei Beloussov, CEO and founder of SWsoft, said as enterprises look for ways to reduce operating costs while optimizing hardware investments, virtualization technology will become a mainstream alternative to unconnected, underutilized servers. Virtuozzo for Microsoft Windows will give customers dynamic partitioning, resource/service level management, virtualization and mass management and templating capabilities unparalleled by other server technologies.

"Results from the IBM lab show that our virtualization technology is unbeaten in the production server arena in terms of scalability, functionality and real-world cost-savings for our customers," said Beloussov. "With several customers already beta-testing Virtuozzo for Microsoft Windows we are looking forward to applying our expertise in VPS technology for the hosting industry to the enterprise. We believe the message of lower IT costs and more efficient hardware management can transfer to any business, in any economy."

SWsoft is also currently making plans to immediately integrate Virtuozzo for Microsoft Windows into its FUSION program (www.sw-soft.com/fusion), which is designed to allow IT managers to immediately begin a server consolidation project without modifying existing applications or retraining staff. The FUSION program comes with a complete package of technology, training, consulting and support services to allow customers to reduce upgrade, hardware management and migration costs by consolidating dozens of obsolete servers onto single x86 server.
