Linux Journal Announces March 'On-Line Fora' Issue

SEATTLE, WA -- SSC Publications, publisher of the award-winning monthly magazine Linux Journal, is pleased to announce the release of the March Linux Journal (number 107), the annual issue covering on-line fora and communities.

"One of the strong points of Linux is all the help you can get, and all the people you can meet, on the Web and mailing lists," commented Editor in Chief Don Marti. "In the March issue we cover how you can run and participate in these on-line fora without getting buried in spam.

"Thanks to developers like March contributors Gary Robinson and Richie Hindle, now you can stop complaining about spam, and just filter it out. Since I read their articles, only three spam messages have polluted my mailbox.

"Now that you've discarded the spam, how do you find the interesting stuff? Start following a blog, which is a frequently updated web site with links and commentary. Or better yet, start your own. Doc Searls and David Sifry help you choose the right software to join blog frenzy.

"Marilyn Davis has added on-line voting to the popular Mailman software for managing mailing lists. Add eVote to your list, and let users run their own elections with no administrator help needed.

Regular columns in the March issue include Reuven M. Lerner's At the Forge article on Unicode for Web development, Dr. B. Thangaraju's article on coding with Linux signals, Charles Curley's article on getting started with GNU emacs and much more. Last but not least, we can't forget our standard columns like Marcel Gagne's Cooking with Linux, Doc Searls' Linux for Suits and Heather Mead's On the Web.

Linux has become a key foundation for supporting today's rapidly growing IT environments. Linux is being used to deploy business applications and databases, trading on its reputation as a low-cost operating environment. For many IT organizations, Linux is a mainstay for deploying Web servers and has evolved from handling basic file, print, and utility workloads to running mission-critical applications and databases, physically, virtually, and in the cloud. As Linux grows in importance in terms of value to the business, managing Linux environments to high standards of service quality — availability, security, and performance — becomes an essential requirement for business success.
